Costa Rica is famous for it’s flora and fauna, but also because it has an ideal climate for high quality arabica coffee. We started to produce and use our own coffee in 2020, after purchasing an old and abandoned coffee plot . We also export around 500kg of our coffee to Kolibri Koffie in the Netherlands.

Coffee Process

We dry our coffee in the traditional way. That is we dry our coffee in the SUN. The process is all manual and as natural as possible. Don Pedro along with his wife Rossana (hotel owners) take a lot of care to make this coffee extremely tasty and high quality.

Two SUN drying methods are used : natural and black honey.
Natural coffee is dried in its berry, which takes longer to dry, but gives the coffee a superior taste. Conversely, Black honey coffee consists of removing the berries and leaving the mucilage on the coffee while drying, this gives the bean a sweeter taste after roasting.

The use of both methods reduces water consumption.

At the hotel we have a very sustainable view to production, this is why we do not use chemical pesticides which are harmful to the environment and to us as a population. Instead we use certain plants (like the Mexican sunflower) to control pests, and efficient microbes to control fungus.

Expanding the farm

Since 2023 the hotel acquired an extra 5 hectares of land, and we have planted 1 hectare of Milenio H1 Hybrid, which is a very high quality bean with a yearly high yield and resistance to pests.

The goal is to produce around 2000kg for specialty coffee per year and have several arabica species.

If you are staying with us, we will serve you our own coffee at breakfast. You can also enjoy a free cup from 3 pm to 5 pm in our social areas and lobby. If you enjoy our coffee you might be interested to buy some.
